This personal piece has been an excuse to tackle Zbrush, and cinematic lighting in Blender. I love challenging myself with new tasks for each of my works lately.
Sculpt in Zbrush, texturing and scene populating in Blender, render and FX in Photoshop.
This creature is intended to be a mermaid redesign, with a more animal take on the legend.
Basically it is a big amphibian with a long and powerful tail that mesmerizes its prey with its moving-pattern frills. It then draws close to the immobilized target and pulls it gently into its mouth with two set of hooked arms filled with paralyzing neurotoxins.
Rather than having it charm preys with the voice like regular mermaids, I liked the idea of having it more insectoïd and cunning.
